In 1975 Stan Hickey started contracting with a tractor and mower, and over the years built a thriving business which has contributed immensely to the development of Rotorua’s infrastructure.
In 1999 Andrew and Alison Shrimpton purchased the business and have continued to enhance the extensive range of skills and services the company offers.
Andrew has been involved in civil engineering all his working life. Prior to purchasing Hickey Contractors he was Managing Director of Tauranga-based Aspen Contractors Ltd, a large civil engineering company specialising in local body infrastructure maintenance and construction. Andrew managed the formation of this company from the merger of the contributing Council in-house service delivery groups to be a successful and openly competitive business employing 130 staff. Aspen was sold to, and became a branch of Excel Corporation in 1999 and in turn Excel has since been sold to Downer EDI Works.
Andrew attained New Zealand Certificate in Engineering (Civil) in 1979 and is a Registered Engineering Associate.
Mark Yorke joined Hickey Contractors in 2017 as Contracts Manager and also contributes an extensive background in civil engineering infrastructure management and construction. Mark prepares most of the quoting/tendering and manages the projects we undertake.
We are members of Civil Contractors New Zealand and Site Safe organisations, are approved contractors for water, sewer and storm water connections to the Rotorua District Council infrastructure and we carry comprehensive project and liability insurance for your peace of mind..
What our customers say
Thank you very much for your efforts on that project (McDonalds Rotorua drive-thru reconstruction). We could never have achieved the timeframes without your team. It was a pleasure to work with a no fuss get it done company.
